End of Century is excited to announce “Okay Colour”, a dynamic exhibition by Johnny Abrahams, a bi-coastal abstract geometric painter whose work pushes the boundaries of visual perception. This marks Abrahams’ first East Coast solo exhibition, showcasing his signature hard-edge painting style that creates bold impressions of movement, pattern, and vibration.
The Art of Abrupt Transitions
In “Okay Colour”, Abrahams masterfully uses the hard-edge technique to separate areas of color with sharp, abrupt transitions. His paintings, though static, seem to pulse and move, creating visual effects of flashing and rhythmic vibration. The stark geometric patterns he employs engage the viewer’s senses, challenging the boundaries of traditional abstraction with a modern, almost digital aesthetic.
A Sculptural Installation to Accompany the Paintings
To further elevate the experience of “Okay Colour”, Abrahams will complement his paintings with an immersive sculptural installation. Using vinyl tape in varying widths and colors, the installation will transform both the walls and floor of the exhibition space. This installation, heavily influenced by Abrahams’ background in textile design, will explore the interplay of color, line, and form in a way that draws the viewer into the vibrant energy of his visual world.
From Textile Design to Avant Garde Art
Born in 1979 in Tacoma, Washington, Abrahams studied textile design at Evergreen State College, an influence that permeates his artwork. His deep understanding of pattern and repetition, drawn from his textile design roots, lends a tactile quality to his paintings, even as they remain firmly rooted in the realm of hard-edge abstraction. In addition to his visual art practice, Abrahams is also the creator of the avant garde music project Okay Colour, further highlighting his multidisciplinary approach to creativity.
